Owner and Founder of DobinLaw
(Excuse me for a minute while I refer to myself in the third-person for SEO purposes) Marc Dobin grew up in Pennsylvania, where he attended Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. It was during his junior year of college that he met his wife. They were married in 1982 and have two grown offspring who are married and live nearby in Washington.
Marc attended New York Law School to obtain his J.D. in February 1986. Winter is an unusual time to graduate from law school. Marc attended law school for his first year during the day and the next 2 1/2 years at night. While going to school at night, he worked in the law department of Prudential Securities, which is how he started learning about the stock brokerage business.
That’s enough SEO. I joined a law firm in New Jersey in 1986 and worked there for two years before being rehired at Prudential. Some my co-workers at that firm, which has merged at least twice, are nearing retirement.
After I returned to Prudential, I started trying cases. I was lucky to have some talented lawyers as supervisors and mentors. I stayed at Prudential for five years and then moved to Florida in 1993.
I joined a law firm in Florida that had a dedicated securities department. We represented a lot of brokerage firms. Many of those firms don’t exist any more.
I and a partner, Debra Jenks, formed their own firm in January 1999. We worked together, representing firms, brokers and some investors, until the middle of 2008. I then went to work for myself for nine months, then another firm for nine months, then back to working for myself in January 2010. I continued representing parties in securities disputes and FINRA regulatory matters.
in 2015, I decided that I was going to focus on mediation. I obtained my certification from Florida in 2016 but I also continued representing securities industry-related parties. I have worked on my own, unless I am co-counsel with someone, since late 2015.
I have been quoted frequently in industry media on securities topics. I have spoken on these topics. I have written on these topics. No videos that I can think of. The securities industry has been an enormous part of my life since I started at Pru back in 1983.
My wife and I decided to move to Washington full-time to be near our family members. I was admitted to the Washington bar in 2023 and I am still admitted in Florida. I have been a Super Lawyer in Florida since 2021.
